Trump assassination attempt victim James Copenhaver dies at 76
James Copenhaver, who was among those injured in the 2024 shooting at then-Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign rally, died, his family told CNN.Copenhaver was injured when a gunman opened fire at Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania’s Butler, on July 13, 2024, during the presidential election campaign.Trump paid tribute to Copenhaver in a post on Truth Social, saying, “God bless American Patriot and Warrior, James Copenhaver, and his incredible family. May he rest in peace!!!”Copenhaver, 76, died on Wednesday at a hospital, according to the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner.His cause of death was not disclosed.Trump was speaking on stage before thousands of supporters at the Butler rally when a gunman positioned on a nearby roof opened fire. Trump was struck in the ear and quickly taken off the stage with blood visible on his face.Copenhaver, who was from Moon Township, and another rally attendee were seriously wounded in the shooting. Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed.The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, fired eight rounds during the attack. He was later shot and killed by a US Secret Service counter-sniper team.Trump survived the assassination attempt and continued his campaign for the 2024 presidential election and assumed highest-office again after electoral victory.
