Rasika Dugal is returning to the world of ‘Mirzapur’, reprising her role as the shrewd and much-discussed Beena Tripathi aka Beena Bhabhi in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about what continues to draw her to the character, and how the franchise’s female characters have expanded the way strength and femininity are portrayed on screen.

How Beena Tripathi’s complexity makes Rasika Dugal to reprise the role

Beena Tripathi has long divided opinion among ‘Mirzapur’ fans, admired by some for her cunning, criticised by others for her manipulative streak. For Dugal, that very complexity is what makes the character worth revisiting. She told Mid Day, “What drew me to Beena is that she refuses to fit into a neat box. She constantly adapts, negotiates power, makes difficult decisions, and surprises both the audience and herself. That makes her far more interesting to play than someone who is written to appear ‘strong’ in every scene.”Dugal added that returning to the character in the film has been especially rewarding, saying, “Revisiting Beena in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ has been rewarding because the writing gives audiences the opportunity to see her beyond binaries.”Dugal also spoke more broadly about how the franchise’s female characters have pushed back against a singular idea of what a “strong woman” should look like on screen. She explained, “Strength, by itself, cannot be the only defining trait of a woman. Real women are contradictory. They can be vulnerable one moment and strategic the next; they can be compassionate and make morally questionable choices at the same time.
