‘Hanuman Ansh’ co-producer Anupriya Nagar says Bollywood producers who once refused the film have now apologised: ‘That was the biggest mistake’ |
Anupriya Nagar, co-producer of ‘Hanuman Ansh’, has said that many people in Bollywood declined to back the film in its early days, but some have since called to say sorry. The 21-year-old producer said investors held back because the film had a small budget, a first-time director and fairly new actors.
Why did investors stay away from ‘Hanuman Ansh’
Anupriya Nagar made these remarks in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan. The film is directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and stars Shobinaw Satyaa. It is inspired by the life of Neem Karoli Baba and deals with faith, devotion, compassion and selfless service.She said the team had approached several people for funds during post-production, but nobody came forward. “Since the beginning, even before I came on board, the ‘Hanuman Ansh’ team had gone to many people for investment for post-production, but nobody agreed to invest, even though it wasn’t a very big investment,” she said.According to Anupriya, only a few people stood by the project before its release, while most doubted it. She said, “Before the release, there were a handful of people who supported us, but many people didn’t believe in the project. They thought it was a small-budget film, the director was making his first film, and the actors were also new. They thought the film would come and go. People didn’t have that belief.”
Producers reach out and apologise
The mood in the industry changed once the film began doing well at the box office. Made on a budget of less than Rs 2 crore, it has earned Rs 331.70 crore gross in India, according to the figures cited in the report.Anupriya Nagar said several producers who had earlier said no have since got in touch. “Lots of producers have reached out, and it is very sweet. They have congratulated us. Some of them have actually come to me and said, ‘First of all, I apologise because this film had come to us. We are sorry we couldn’t join you. That was the biggest mistake I made,'” she recalled.
A lesson for the industry
She added that some industry members told her the film had shown what a small production can achieve. “They said, ‘You have made us realise that a small film can do so much. You have given a lesson to the industry.’ They told us, ‘Whatever you want, we are with you,'” she said.Anupriya, however, said she holds no grudge against those who turned the film down. “I don’t blame them because it was a very small film,” she said.

Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film has grossed over Rs 330 crore on Day 48. It was released in theatres on August 7, 2026.
