Angelina Jolie isn’t only known for her hit roles, the Hollywood actress has always been taking her humanitarian foot forward. This takes us back to June of 2017, when the Hollywood actress traveled to the Kenyan capital of Nairobi to visit 20 adolescent refugee girls living in the Heshima Kenya Safe House on World Refugee Day.Jolie, who’s also the ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said at the time, “”Over half of all refugees and displaced people worldwide are women and children. How we treat them is a measure of our humanity as nations.” During her visit Jolie urged the people to consider the “pain and suffering of young girls.” This marked the activist’s third visit to Kenya. However, she has been known to do humanitarian work with refugees across the globe. She has advocated for rights of the refugees across Bangladesh, Colombia-Venezuela border, Iraq, Jordan and even India.
When Angelina Jolie left the role as UN refugee agency ambassador
In 2022, Angelina Jolie stepped down from her role as an ambassador for the UN’s refugee agency. Writing on Instagram, the Oscar-winning actress said that she would spend the rest of her life working with refugees. “After over 20 years, I am stepping down today from my work with the UN refugee agency,” she wrote. “Refugees are the people I admire most in the world and I am dedicated to working with them for the rest of my life. I will be working now with organisations led by people most directly affected by conflict, that give the greatest voice to them.”In a joint statement with Jolie, UNHCR praised her for her “tireless” work, and described her as “one of the most influential proponents of refugee rights”.
