Vivek Oberoi has created a home in Mumbai that feels far removed from the city’s usual hustle and bustle. Designed around the warmth of a Goan farmhouse, his residence brings together antique furniture, natural elements, greenery and a few unusual touches, including a pet cow named Kamadhenu.In 2024, the actor offered viewers a glimpse of his home through Urban Company’s Reels to Rooms, revealing how the space reflects his personality as well as his life with wife Priyanka Alva.
A home that feels like a village retreat
Vivek began the tour by introducing Kamadhenu, who has become an integral part of the unusual setup. For him, having a cow around the property helps recreate the atmosphere of a village despite living in Mumbai.“This is more her house than mine. The aroma of a cowshed gives you a feel that within this city, you are living in your own little village,” he said.The actor also explained that he wanted his personal space to be a contrast to his professional life. While his work requires him to inhabit fictional characters, home is where he can simply be himself.“I work in a world of make belief where everything is superficial but when I walk back from the world to my home, I am not the actor Vivek Oberoi, I am just me,” he said.
Goan influence runs through the interiors
Wooden furnishings, ornate chandeliers, indoor plants and a large portrait of Goddess Lakshmi contribute to the property’s distinctive aesthetic. Rather than opting for a polished, contemporary look throughout, Vivek and Priyanka chose elements that gave the interiors a more earthy and lived-in character.Vivek said sustainability and their connection to Goa were important considerations while designing the house.“The idea was that this home should come from me and Priyanka, and what it represents is our life. When we bought this house, we wanted it to reflect Goa. Everything that you see outside, inside is the essence of a farmhouse,” he said.
An antique bed with family memories
The bedroom houses several antiques that Vivek has collected over the years, but one particular piece holds a much deeper emotional value. The vintage bed belonged to Priyanka’s family and has been passed down through generations.“This bed has been in Priyanka’s family for half-a-century and maybe even longer than that. So, I love it because my earliest memory as a 4-year-old is sleeping in a bed like this and feeling cozy and secure while listening to stories from my dadi,” he said.The furniture and decor give the home a sense of history, while the surrounding greenery ensures that nature remains a visible part of the interiors.
Embracing imperfections
One of the defining features of Vivek’s home is its attempt to blur the boundary between the outdoors and indoors. Large windows bring views of tall trees into the living spaces, creating a connection with nature.The backyard continues the same philosophy, with exposed pipes and a visible tap becoming part of the space rather than being hidden away. Vivek said he enjoys these unconventional details instead of trying to make every corner look perfectly finished.“We like this quirkiness and madness,” he said while wrapping up the tour.Vivek has appeared in several popular Hindi films, including ‘Saathiya’ and ‘Omkara’, among other projects.
