Soori’s ‘Mandaadi’ clears censorship; Sports drama set in unusual sea back drop s to release on September 10

Soori’s upcoming sports action drama ‘Mandaadi’ is getting closer to its theatrical release, and the latest certification update has added to the excitement around the film. Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendi, the movie is mounted on a large scale and was shot extensively around Tamil Nadu’s coastal regions. With an unusual sea-based setting and intense action, the film has already attracted attention among Tamil cinema fans.

‘Mandaadi’ gets U/A 16+ certificate from CBFC

The major update came when the Central Board of Film Certification cleared ‘Mandaadi’ with a U/A 16+ certificate. The makers have officially announced the certification through their official X account and confirmed that the film is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release. The certification is an important milestone for the makers as they enter the final stage of promotions. Soori leads the film, with Mahima Nambiar playing the female lead and Telugu actor Suhas making his Tamil debut with a key role. The cast also includes Sathyaraj, Ravindra Vijay, Mithun and Balasaravanan.

Soori’s high-risk Sea stunts become major ‘Mandaadi’ highlight

What makes ‘Mandaadi’ different from a regular sports drama is its demanding action work on the sea. Soori is said to have performed the high-risk sequences himself instead of depending on body doubles. The actor reportedly underwent extensive training for the sailing and boat-racing portions, preparing for the physical challenges involved in filming at sea. The team completed the shoot in April after working through difficult weather and locations. The makers had earlier released a video showing the demanding nature of the shoot, with members of the cast and crew sustaining injuries during production. This physical commitment has become one of the key talking points around the film.

About ‘Mandaadi’

The title ‘Mandaadi’ is inspired by the maritime culture of Tamil Nadu’s coastal communities and refers to qualities such as skill, courage, and leadership while facing the challenges of the sea. The film has been shot mainly across coastal areas, including the Ramanathapuram region, and features large-scale action sequences and sailboat racing scenes. The project is also being planned as a pan-Indian release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. With Soori taking on an ambitious action role, Suhas making his Tamil debut, and the film receiving its U/A 16+ certification, ‘Mandaadi’ is now entering its final countdown. The makers have announced September 10, 2026 as the worldwide theatrical release date, making the film one of Soori’s most anticipated projects.
