NEW DELHI: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said protests had been held across the country against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and demanded his resignation over former Kerala chief secretary’s allegation that Kumar had offered him a BJP ticket.Calling the alleged offer “completely illegal and unethical”, Priyanka said it raised questions about the political neutrality of the institutions responsible for conducting elections.“It’s completely illegal and unethical. Completely unethical. It shows that these people who are supposed to be at the highest level of our election system and the institutions that run our elections, they have party leanings,” she said, news agency ANI reported.“Not only do they have party leanings, but they are actively propagating those parties. How can they run fair elections?” she added.“There are protests in the whole country… In every district, we have protested against him. In Delhi, there have been protests,” Priyanka said.

She further alleged that the latest controversy was “only one in a series of things” Kumar had done, describing them as “completely illegal and unconstitutional”, and said he “needs to resign now”.The allegation comes amid the wider political row over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with opposition parties questioning the poll panel’s conduct and demanding greater transparency.
